Staying safe around electricity

In a previous article, we discussed safety tips for kids. Below are some additional electrical safety tips that kids and adults alike should pay close attention to.

  • Never make contact with electrical cords, wires, switches or plugs if you are unsure whether or not they are live.
  • Keep your distance from fallen power lines.
  • Never use electronics (ie. hairdryer, radio, television) near a bathtub or sink.
  • Never use electronic devices while your hands are wet.
  • Fly kites and model airplanes in a wide open field or park—never near overhead electrical wires.
  • Never attempt to climb up a utility pole or electrical tower.
  • Keep your distance from substations and transformers (green boxes).
