Safety tips for kids

At Green Tree Electric, safety is our top priority, especially when it comes to keeping children out of harm’s way. Here is Green Tree Electric’s top 10 list for keeping your children safe around electrical hazards.

1. Don’t try to stick anything into electrical wall outlets or into any devices that are already plugged in.

2. All electrical wall outlets should be childproofed.

3. Plugging too many devices into a single outlet with a power bar adaptor can lead to electrical overloads and become a fire hazard.

4. Don’t remove the bottom prong of a plug. This is used for grounding.

5. Replace all cords that have any damage to them (ie: cords that have loose ends or tears in the plastic covering).

6. Don’t plug devices into outlets if there is water on the floor surrounding it.

7. Keep hands out of outlets or light switches that have no plastic covering.

8. Don’t use any electrical in the bath tub or shower. This includes CD players, telephones, hair dryers, etc.

9. Be aware of your surroundings when you are playing outside, and always double check for overhead and undergrounding wiring.

10. Don’t climb utility poles and fencing, especially near electrical equipment.
